It was my misfortune to have to journey to and from Royal Windsor on St George’s day. So while the trains were held up due to some problem, I had a stroll around the picture book town of Windsor. I saw one St George’s flag flying in the town. That was it.
On the big castle on the hill, owned by some rich family, there was no indication that St Georges day was happening.
In London town, at least in South London, apart from a few working class St George’s flags in windows there was no sign on any major building of England’s national day. The Swan pub in Stockwell, where an inn has stood for hundreds of years has had Irish tricolours outside for weeks. It is all very disappointing.

Pleased to hear that Wantage has flown the flag. It may just stop King Alfred spinning in his grave for a while. I am sure he is another one from history who would look at what the sods have done to his England and say, " I don't know why I bloody bothered" - I am sure I could get somebody to translate that into Anglo-Saxon should you so wish. Heard today that George only became the patron saint on the orders of the then Archbishop of Canterbury in 1415 after Henry V had invoked him at Agincourt. Not sure if that is right as I thought it started earlier during the crusades. It would be nice if we had kept St Edmund but as one who claims Danish Viking descent perhaps that is a bit of problem. Here within sight of Scotland our Moot Hall flew the flag as well and there were others around the town. I think people now just can't wait for the Scots to go. They have shown they don't really like us so a divorce is now due, the marriage never was truly happy. I see that Paul Nuttall of UKIP is calling for a public holiday on St George's day. I think Paul was the one who was for an English Parliament. A shame he can't switch and become the ED's first euro-mp. The idea of a public holiday was rejected by the mp for Carlisle - a Scot!! - hardly tactful methinks!! - Anonymous

North Kent Police/St George's Day

Dear Sirs.

I would like to make you aware of North Kent Police's total disregard for the celebration and recognition of St George's Day in the Dartford/Gravesham area.
Firstly my 8 year old son, who is a beaver/cub member, joined with other cub and scout troop members from around the Dartford area for the annual St George's Day parade in Dartford's Central Park on Sunday 22nd April. He along with all the others gathered there were looking forward to their traditional St George's Day march through the town centre. Unfortunately they were to be disappointed because North Kent Police would not provide officers to co-ordinate the necessary rolling road closures for the 30-45minute duration of this much enjoyed parade.

If this wasn't disgusting enough, The North Kent Police Station at Ebbsfleet also refused to fly the Cross of St George on the 23rd April as it was not deemed 'appropriate'.

I wonder if perhaps you can get a statement from North Kent Police giving their reasons for not recognising the importance of our national saint's day.

Yours sincerely

Brian Challis - Mr Brian Challis

I was pleased to see this morning that my Town Council, Wantage, in Oxfordshire, was flying the flag in the Market Square. Have written to thank them for doing so and have asked if they would consider doing it more frequently. - The PrangWizard, of England
